August 31, 2006 – The IRS and Department of Labor have issued news release IR-2006-135 granting a further extension of time for certain Hurricane Katrina victims to file returns and make tax payments. This includes Form 5500, Annual Return/Report of Employee Benefit Plan (Also Form 5500-EZ). This action now extends the deadline from August 28, 2006, to October 16, 2006. The extension applies to those who qualified for earlier extensions, in 11 Alabama counties, 31 Louisiana parishes, and 48 Mississippi counties.
