Hurricane Katrina Victim Deadlines Extended Further

February 21, 2006 – The IRS has issued a news release (IR-2006-30) and Notice 2006-20 describing a further extension for certain victims of Hurricane Katrina to file tax returns and complete time-sensitive tax-related acts, such as completion of rollovers, etc. The prior deadline of February 28, 2006, is being extended to August 28, 2006.

This extension is for filings and tax-related acts that had an original or extended deadline on, or after, August 29, 2005. An automatic extension is provided to any resident of seven Louisiana parishes and three counties in Mississippi named in the guidance. In addition, taxpayers in certain additional identified parishes and counties of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama who were affected by Hurricane Katrina may receive the same relief (if completing a filing), by identifying themselves with the legend “Hurricane Katrina” on the return being filed.
