The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), has issued a news release concerning relief granted to certain victims of a tornado occurring August 12, 2005, in Campbell County, Wyoming. This relief aligns with relief announced earlier by DOL’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) regarding the same disaster event, and applying to the filing of Form 5500, Annual Return/Report of Employee Benefit Plan.
In addition to the relief available for Form 5500 filings due between August 12 and October 21, and extended to October 21, 2005, certain other PBGC-related actions are given the same extension. These actions, related to defined benefit pension plans, include payment of PBGC premiums, filing plan termination notices, the filing of certain financial and actuarial reports by underfunded plans, distribution of plan assets, filing for a post-distribution certification, etc.
